We’re all used to perfectly practiced sound bites from AFL’s biggest names.
The Captains Quiz was designed to be the exact opposite.
 

Raw, organic, awkward, funny — and totally unpredictable — the series put AFL captains in a relaxed, no-script environment where anything could happen.

Produced in partnership with the AFL and McDonald’s, the quiz leaned into spontaneity and humour, creating standout social content that felt real, playful, and highly shareable.

WHAT MY

CLIENTS SAY

The AFL had access to all of the club captains for a media shoot and wanted to make use of some extra time by creating something a little different — cue the very first Captains Quiz.

With free creative rein on the project, the brief quickly became simple: throw them into an environment they weren’t used to and see what happened.

We’re all used to seeing our favourite sports stars deliver perfectly polished one-liners, but this format flipped that on its head. Instead, the quiz leaned into chaos — unexpected questions, playful pressure, and an interview environment that felt nothing like what the players were used to.

Enter: a frilly pink tablecloth, a handmade trophy, random props, musical instruments, and a host who was only slightly unprofessional.

The result was a series that felt fresh, spontaneous, and genuinely fun — and that energy absolutely comes through in the final footage. It was one of those shoots where everyone was laughing, the players dropped their guard, and something special happened on camera.
