Totally Wild is one of the longest running children’s television programs in Australia. Each episode was made up of several edited field stories about the environment, sports and all sorts of creative pursuits.

As a segment producer on Totally Wild I was a bit of an all rounder - I would write, direct, host, produce and even build props on the children’s television show which aired weekly on the CBS Network.

OVERVIEW:
My role as a segment producer on Totally Wild was probably one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. In this job I learnt so much about the art of storytelling and it really tested my creative capacities.
The TW team would meet up weekly and discuss possible stories to cover, each producer would be allocated their stories for the week and then it was GO TIME!!! A typical week would involve turning around a minimum of 4 segments end to end - it was non-stop!
From a creative point of view it was really awesome because the topics would always be super different and challenging. In a week you might have been asked to cover artistic gymnastics, rubbish tips, the swooping habits of plovers and bike police. As a producer I absolutely loved the challenge of having to find ways to creatively craft stories so that they not only educated kids but also excited, entertained and inspired them!!
There was a quote on the wall at work that perfectly sums up the valuable lesson that I learnt in my time as a segment producer at Totally Wild:
“There is no such thing as a boring story, only a boring way of telling it”.
