I really wanted to create something different for the footy coverage! Match Mates was a fun, fresh, feel-good series that aimed to put a big smile on peoples faces!

Match Mates was super-fun series that I created for Channel Seven. The show was broadcast during AFL matches on Channel Seven and also sat across their digital platforms. For this project I was the creator, writer and series host.
In each episode we hunted down the best BFFs from each footy club and put their friendships to the test. Players were asked a series of fun questions about each other in order to answer that all-important question that has baffled many a footy fan - ‘Who are the best mates in the AFL?’

It was a very, very serious competition - players were asked everything from what their BFFs shoe size was, to how many topless photos their mate had posted on instagram. The winning duo from the entire series were to be crowned the official Match Mates of the competition and (as well as all of the glory) they would take home a super cute best friendship necklace to solidify their friendship!
I really wanted to develop a series that brought out a different side of the players' personalities and also brought a different energy to the footy coverage. I think a lot of the sport content on television is that typical panel show format or those super standard preview and review type shows. With Match Mates I wanted to create something different, something that was fun, fresh, playful and that made people smile - and I think we got there!
