OVERVIEW:

Summer School was a digital series created for the AFL as part of their partnership with Instagram, designed to promote the launch of IGTV.

The series premiered exclusively on AFL IGTV before rolling out across AFL digital platforms.

It blended sport, social-first storytelling, and a healthy dose of chaos — including one very close encounter with a herd of sheep.

CLIENTS SAY

WHAT MY

Summer School was an absolute joy to work on. The concept was simple (and slightly unhinged): AFL players would undergo some very alternative training to improve a specific footy skill.

Think car racing to work on speed, sheep herding to improve agility, and pole dancing for core strength. It was essentially a very creative excuse to make elite athletes do wildly unexpected things — all in the name of performance.

The client for the series was Instagram, with a clear goal: encourage audiences to engage with the IGTV platform. To support that, the show made deliberate stylistic choices tailored to IGTV — fast-paced edits, strong hooks, and a tone that felt playful, bold, and perfectly at home on social.

From a production point of view, the structure made the series a dream to create. Each episode followed a simple formula: meet the player, identify the problem, introduce the unconventional training, set a challenge, and wrap it all up. Once that framework was in place, the show really did write itself.

The end result was a high-energy, fun-first series that didn’t take itself too seriously — and one that gave fans a side of the players they don’t usually get to see.

"Amberley has been a breath of fresh air at the AFL bringing a different perspective as well as a whole lot of fun to the team! If you have been looking for someone who can create, write, produce, direct, present, knock out voice overs, build props and even host a great weekly office trivia session then go no further! No matter what Amberley is tasked onto she always attacks it with a big smile and a tonne of enthusiasm."
